Speaking at school...good times!

Those who know me well will understand that after seeing a bit of Countryside I'm happy to move on! So I was pleased to go into some Secondary Schools, or "High School" to help run 2 days on the topics of Goals and Values. I was able to go into 2 different schools in Corowa and Finley. During both days we worked with members of the local churches. The days consisted of a mixture of talks, games, video montages and small group discussions. We ran the days for year 11's. (In Oz they are year 10) The students numbered between 50 and 60. They were a good bunch, pretty well behaved apart from a quick punch up between mates, no blood spilt and over as quickly as it began!

It's at times when you work somewhere else you realise how fortunate you are and elements you can easily take for granted. In the UK Schools study major religions and have lessons under the title Citizenship. So most weeks Secondary students are thinking and questioning important issues in life and faith. On the response cards from each day many students remarked that they thought about life and faith issues that they hadn't done before...

I'm praising God for the all opportunites we have and asking Him to continue to stir hearts and minds to make the most of the freedom we have.

During the day it was incredibly encouraging to see how community was formed and ways in which students lowered their masks and began sharing their thoughts and opinions. Especially how a number of atheists were willing to be open and consider some of the elements surrounding Christianity. It was personally encouraging to be a part of this process, sharing your experience of Jesus and to support and encourage some of the more nervous representatives from local churches! Throughout the days I've been asking, "How would this work in the Uk? What would we change? What would we keep? Which year would we aim this at? What other subjects could this work for?"

The main strength I perceive is being able to spend a day with students, in a different location other than a class room. The sense of unity and community results in openness, fun and gives the Holy Spirit pleanty of space to work...

Lastly, here's some beautiful sky...
